The Steel City Smasher

Ingredients:

For 8-10 burgers:

  • 800g – 1.2kg coarsely ground beef
  • Grate Goods Beef or Steak Rub
  • Grate Goods Steel City Style Secret Sauce
  • Grate Goods Smokey Cucumbers
  • 4–6 brioche buns or hamburger buns
  • Cheddar cheese (2 slices per burger)
  • Lettuce & tomato

Step by step

Step 1: Season

  • Mix the ground beef with the Beef or Steak Rub (approx. 30–40g per kilogram of meat).
  • Form into balls of about 100 grams each.
  • Let the flavors absorb for a while.

Step 2: Prep

  • Slice the buns open and toast the inside until golden brown.
  • Spread the bottom half with Steel City Secret Sauce, then add lettuce and tomato.

Step 3: Smash

  • Heat a cast iron griddle or plancha until it’s blazing hot.
  • Place two beef balls on the surface and immediately smash them completely flat using a sturdy spatula.

Step 4: Flip

  • Cook until the edges are crispy and dark brown (about 60–90 seconds).
  • Flip them over and immediately place a slice of cheddar on each patty.

Step 4: Build

  • Stack two patties on top of each other and place them on the bun.

Step 4: Finish

  • Top with the Smokey Cucumbers and an extra drizzle of Steel City Secret Sauce. Finish with the top half of the bun.

TIP: This recipe contains enough for 8–10 burgers. Got rub left over? Use it next time to season a steak!
